What is documentary birth photography?

You might spend years longing for the day a child joins your family, and yet it happens in one hectic moment.

The end of pregnancy is so frantic that it can sometimes feel like an out-of-body experience. Is this really happening right now? When your body takes over and you're just along for the ride, it can be difficult to remember what you're feeling or process what's going on.

That's why documentary birth photography exists—to capture all the emotions, thoughts, and experiences so you can remember (or relive) it later.

Look back on your photos and say, “Wow, I really did that.”

Documentary birth photography is about capturing bravery in the midst of fear, strength in uncertainty, and love amid the labor so you can remember it forever.

It’s also about the connection you share with your partner and supporters, the first moments you share with your child, and the celebration you have with your friends and family.

While labor is a one-person process, it wouldn't be possible without your team.

Your loved ones, medical professionals, doulas or midwives will help guide you through contractions, delivery, and post-delivery. Their impact on your story, as well as their stories, are just as important as your own.

Our goal isn't to document you like it’s National Geographic.

Although the raw emotions and experiences are certainly an important part of your story, our main focus is to capture this profound experience with subtlety, respect, and honor. We strive to empower you to see your own strength and to tell your story your way.

We search to capture the majesty in moments that don't feel so majestic at the time. But if the start of life isn't magnificent, what is?
